Frequently Asked Questions - Summer Camp
We understand that you may have a lot of questions as you prepare for camp, and we're here to help. Below are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions. Should you need further assistance, feel free to reach out.
What’s included in the fee?
- Instruction: Daily tennis training, including morning, afternoon, and evening sessions.
- Overnight Campers: Dormitory housing on campus and all meals provided (except Sunday dinner).
- Day Campers: Lunch and dinner are provided Monday through Thursday.
- Supervision: Our dedicated staff members reside in rooms throughout the dorms to provide continuous, hands-on supervision and engage in all activities.
- Camp T-shirt: Each camper will receive a Tennis Camps t-shirt.
- Activities: All evening activities are included at no additional charge.
How do I know my camper is registered?
Upon completing online registration, you will receive an automatic email confirming your camper’s registration and securing their spot in camp. Please ensure that your email address is entered correctly, as this is our primary method of communication. If you do not see our email, please check your spam folder.
What if my child is sick, and I need a refund or transfer sessions?
Refunds are available up to the non-refundable deposit before camp begins. If your child is injured, please provide documentation from a doctor for a refund, minus the deposit. If you need to transfer sessions, contact us as soon as possible—we will do our best to accommodate as long as space is available. Transfers within two weeks of the original session may incur additional charges. Please note that NCAA rules require us to adhere to the stated refund policy. No refunds will be provided for cancellations made less than one week before the camp begins unless supported by a doctor’s note.
If Baylor cancels camp due to COVID-related closures, government mandates, or other circumstances, you will receive a full refund.
If your child has to leave due to illness, an emergency, or Covid-19, the refund will be prorated, minus the deposit, housing, and food charges.
When is the final payment due?
The final payment is due one week before the camp starts and can be made online through your account on Active.
Where are the forms I need to complete?
All necessary forms, including the medical form, will be electronically signed during the online registration process.
Do you honor roommate requests?
Roommate requests can be made through the online registration system. We strive to assign compatible roommates based on age. Requests must be mutual, and please note that boys will room with boys and girls with girls. There are limited three-bedroom accommodations available in Penland, which will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.
Who should I speak to if my child has a severe food allergy?
Please contact Camp Director Jacqui Haddock directly to discuss any food allergies or special dietary needs.
May my child bring food and water to the dorm rooms?
Yes, campers are welcome to bring coolers and snacks. However, they are expected to clean up after themselves.
What are the skill requirements for camp?
Our camps are open to players of all skill levels. Campers will be placed in groups according to their age and skill level, ranging from beginners to tournament-level players. Our goal is to teach the fundamentals to beginners, introduce strategy and advanced techniques to intermediate players, and challenge advanced players in competitive, strategic situations.
What type of campers attend this camp?
Our camps welcome players from all skill levels. Whether your child is just starting out or is competing at a high school or tournament level, we tailor our instruction to each camper’s needs. We teach technical basics to beginners, strategy and stroke refinement to intermediates, and high-pressure competitive situations for advanced players.
What is the ratio of campers to staff?
We maintain small instructional groups with an approximate 5-6:1 camper-to-coach ratio to ensure personalized attention and effective coaching.
Who are the counselors besides the Baylor coaches?
Our team consists of Baylor students, Baylor coaches, high school coaches, and student-athletes with experience competing in tennis at the collegiate level. All staff members are experienced in camp settings and working with minors. Our mature staff provides 24-hour supervision, ensuring your child is supported at all times. Additionally, all staff undergoes a comprehensive criminal background check and child protection training conducted by Baylor University.
Are campers supervised at all times?
Yes, our dedicated counselors provide 24-hour supervision. From on-court sessions to activities and dormitory care, we ensure that campers are always under the watchful eye of trained staff.
Will there be a trainer on-site?
Yes, a certified Baylor trainer will be available at the tennis courts at all times to address any injuries or health concerns.
What is your inclement weather plan?
We are fortunate to have six indoor, climate-controlled courts available. In the event of inclement weather, we will move indoor to ensure the camp schedule continues as planned.
